Seven Steps to a Safer School - The "Seven Steps" articulated here have been drawn from school violence literature and from the practical experiences of seasoned educators, and address essential questions about the process of implementing an effective, comprehensive school safety plan. Guide for Preventing and Responding to School Violence - Cooperation with law enforcement and local community services is critical in the event of school emergencies. This guide, developed by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, addresses both planning and response to such emergencies. Preventing School Violence - This link from the National Education Association contains articles on a wide range of school safety issues, including school based police officers and the use of identification badges. Learning to Head Off Violence - Applying its experience in assessing threats, the U.S. Secret Service helped the U.S. Department of Education develop a manual and training program for school staff and community members. The manual, designed to head off violence in schools, encourages schools to adopt a team approach to preventing violence. School Safety Program Statistics - Review this survey, which explores safety measures used utilized by schools. Which controls are used at your school and which should you consider?
